Manapság minden ember számára sokat jelent az Európai Unió. Jelentős részét képezi a hétköznapjainknak, szervezi és áthatja azokat, így aztán mindnyájunknak tisztában kell lenni annak a gazdasági és politikai egyesülésnek a részleteivel, amely a mi életünkre is nagy hatást gyakorol. A 2019/2020-as tanévtől már iskolánk is tagja az Európai Parlament Nagykövet Iskolája programnak, és rendkívül szerencsésnek érezzük magunkat, hogy ilyen fiatalon betekintést nyerhetünk az Unió ügyes-bajos dolgaiba.

2019 novemberében töltöttük ki az Euroscola által meghirdetett tesztet, azt a kvízjátékot, amelynek nyertesei eltölthetnek egy teljes napot az Európai Parlament strasbourgi épületében, hatalmas lehetőséghez juttatva ezzel osztálytársaikat is. Természetesen azonnal felkeltette az érdeklődésünket a felhívás, hiszen már korábban is indultunk EU-s témákkal foglalkozó megmérettetéseken. Rengeteg küzdelmes próbajáték után végül belevágtunk élesben is, és 60 pontból 46, ill. 50 pontot sikerült bezsebelnünk. Hihetetlenül boldogok voltunk, és vártuk az értesítést a szervezőktől, utazhatunk-e Strasbourgba.

Néhány héttel később meg is érkezett, és el se hittük, hogy ez velünk történik. Azonnal belevágtunk a tervezgetésbe, amelyben Csejteiné Libricz Henriett tanárnő, az osztályfőnökünk járt az élen, ezúton is nagyon szépen köszönjük a munkáját. Másfél hónapnyi szervezés után végre elérkezett a nagy nap: január 16-án elindultunk a franciaországi Strasbourg felé, ahová körülbelül 15 óra múlva meg is érkeztünk. Na, de ne szaladjunk ennyire előre, mindenről szépen sorjában!

A mindenki számára kissé kellemetlen hajnali kelést követően felszálltunk a buszra. Az út során gyakran álltunk meg pár perces pihenőkre, de az első nagyobb szünetünket Salzburgban tartottuk. Ragyogó napsütésben sétáltunk a belvárosban, és megtekintettünk néhány nevezetességet, például Mozart szülőházát vagy az arany földgömböt, a Sphaerát. Az idő elteltével egyre fogytak a kilométerek előlünk és Németország keresztülszelése után végre átléptük a francia határt is. Este 8 óra körül megérkeztünk a szállásra, amelynek elfoglalása után szinte azonnal elaludtunk, hiszen hosszú és fárasztó út volt mögöttünk.

Másnap végre eljött a várva várt péntek, a nap, amikor meglátogathattuk az Európai Parlamentet. A szállodában elfogyasztott gyors reggeli után mindnyájan elegánsan felöltözve szálltunk buszra, amely egyenesen a célhoz vitt minket. Részletes biztonsági ellenőrzés után bejutottunk az épületbe, és még a lélegzetünk is elállt. Hatalmas és grandiózus épületszárnyak, folyosók, termek tárultak a szemünk elé, hihetetlenül modern felszereltséggel. Egy kedves, ott dolgozó hölgy, Johanna azonnal a segítségünkre sietett, üdvözölte kis csapatunkat és útbaigazítást nyújtott nekünk a nap további részére vonatkozóan. Ezután közös, reggelihez hasonlító fogadás következett, melyen mind a 21 uniós tagállamot képviselő csoport részt vett. Itt már azonban Dorinát, fiatal újságírónkat, illetve Áront és jómagamat, az iskolánkat prezentáló diákokat különültettek a többiektől, hogy alaposabban megismerhessük egymást. A nap további részében egyre izgalmasabb programokkal vártak minket: az első plenáris ülésen kérdezhettünk egy EU parlamenti képviselőtől, majd az iskolák képviselői bemutatták a többieknek lakhelyüket, iskolájukat, összességében a mindennapjaikat. A diákok ezen a napon angolul, németül, franciául vagy olaszul szólalhattak meg, és végig tapasztalt, hozzáértő tolmácsok álltak rendelkezésünkre, segítették munkánkat. Körülbelül délben az első program lezárult, és közösen vonultunk át az étkezőbe, ahol az idegen diákokkal vegyülve, beszélgetve fogyasztottuk el az ebédet, mindeközben lehetőséget kaptunk az ún. Eurogame kvízjáték és Instagram fotópályázat kipróbálására is.

A délutáni programok az előre kialakított munkacsoportok ülésezésével kezdődtek, mely során a bizottsági termekben megvitathattuk a legégetőbb uniós kérdéseket, mint például a fiatalok foglalkozatása, a bevándorlás kérdése vagy az integráció fontossága. Délután 4 óra körül ismét elfoglaltuk az üléstermet, és csoportjaink előre megválasztott képviselői vázolták fel elképzeléseinket a többiek számára. A program lebonyolításában egy francia politikus volt segítségünkre és a végén szavazhattunk is a kérdésekről, maximálisan hangot adva véleményünknek. A nap vége felé közeledve az Eurogame kvízjáték döntősei ismét összecsaphattak, majd a sűrű programok sorát egy apró ünnepség zárta, melynek során a felcsendülő Örömóda és a lobogó zászlók emlékeztettek minket az összetartozásra. 6 óra körül visszaindultunk a szállásra, és az este folyamán még sétáltunk egy keveset a gyönyörűen kivilágított városban.

A szombati napot teljes mértékben a városnézésnek szenteltük. Strasbourggal kezdtünk, rengeteget sétáltunk a belvárosban, és az egészet a katedrális látogatásával koronáztuk meg, melynek tetejéről gyönyörű kilátás tárult a szemünk elé, az egész város láthatóvá vált. Ezt követően rövid buszút következett, majd megérkeztünk Colmar csodálatos óvárosába, melynek varázsa elzászi stílusú építészetében rejlik. Itt kaptunk néhány óra szabadidőt, melyet természetesen a látnivalók megtekintésére és ebédelésre fordítottunk. A nap végére megint csak rettenetesen elfáradtunk a sok gyaloglásban, így a vacsora utáni maradék kis időnket a szállodában töltöttük.

Elérkezett a vasárnap, ami egyben azt is jelentette, hogy ideje búcsút inteni Franciaországnak és hazaindulni. Korán reggel bepakoltunk a buszba és nekivágtunk a hazafelé tartó, hosszadalmas útnak. Természetesen, mint idefelé, tartottunk apróbb megállókat, de a legtöbb időt a németországi Passauban töltöttük, ahol a fárasztó buszozás után végre kicsit kinyújtóztathattuk tagjainkat. Este 9 óra körül értünk vissza Sárvárra, ahol szüleink már nagyon vártak minket és mi is szép élményekkel tértünk haza a családjainkhoz.

Összességében úgy gondolom, hogy az egész csapatnak életre szóló élményt nyújtott ez a kirándulás és az aktív pihenésnek, a szabadidő hasznos eltöltésének ezen fajtája segített nekünk kiszakadni egy kicsit a borús, januári hétköznapokból. Mindannyiunk nevében még egyszer szeretném megköszönni Csejteiné Libricz Henriett tanárnő munkáját, köszönöm a minket kísérő tanárok segítségét, a buszsofőr uraknak azt, hogy épségben el, majd hazajuttattak minket, illetve mindenki másnak az aktív részvételt, aki részt vett a program szervezésében.

Euroscola Day in the European Parliament

We Hungarians are surrounded by the European Union every day. We can see the blue flags on the walls of public institutions and we can walk through the parks and squares that were built with EU support. We students can feel many benefits provided by the EU such as roaming, ERASMUS+ and even the science lab in our school. Me and my classmates were introduced to an EU themed competition last year called ‘4 for Europe’ and we have attended a number of similar contests ever since.  I believe I would say that was the stepping stone for us to take this unique opportunity and participate in the Euroscola event.

Needless to say, we were all pleasantly surprised when we were invited to Strasbourg only after our very first attempt at the online game. Indeed, we were tremendously delighted and started planning our trip as soon as we got the invitation. It was nine of us who completed the online test and won the trip to France as a prize agreed that we would like to bring our whole class with us among other pupils who were interested to join. Our form teacher made all the arrangements for us for which we are all particularly grateful to her.

On January 16^th our journey began at dawn as we left our town Sárvár and started our 15-hour bus ride to Strasbourg. On our way we stopped in Salzburg for an hour to rest and to discover Mozart birthplace. At about nine o’clock we arrived at our hotel and after check in we fell asleep waiting anxiously for the next day. After breakfast we headed for the European Parliament building. As drowsy as we were it still was a breath-taking moment when our eyes fell on the colossal building in front of us. At arrival I was immediately separated from my group and joined the young journalists’ table. I was lucky enough to spend the whole day with these bright individuals, with whom I had the opportunity to discuss various EU and politics related subjects as well as casual everyday topics. It was interesting to hear about all the different school systems we encounter such as the historical and political problems in one another’s countries and how they influence and affect our lives.

It was a truly thrilling experience when we set foot in the main chamber of the Louise Weiss building and took our seats right were the MEPs discuss the EU current issues. In the morning session we were informed about our schedule then the French MEP, Younous Omarjee answered our questions. During this Q&A session a wide range of issues were tackled such as Brexit, Trade war with the USA, migration and flow management, nuclear agreement with Iran, raising young people’s interest in the EU etc. Our classmates had the chance to introduce themselves and our home by giving short presentations.

While we had lunch together in the cafeteria, we formed groups of four people, all from different countries and began the Eurogame, which is a quiz for the participants of the Euroscola Day, where every question is in a different language. We needed to solve this problem and at the end of our break   sheets were collected for being corrected. The other students formed six groups at this point of the day and stood away to exchange their views and ideas on topics like environment and renewable energy, security and human rights, youth employment etc.

Our group of journalists was led to the main press conference room of the European Parliament to get informed on new projects and the process of the work done in the EP. We could put our questions on such controversial and sensitive subjects as the possible upcoming war between the USA and Iran or Brexit. It was fascinating to hear the honest opinions of those who work in this institution and experience these events closely. After the press conference we could vote for our favourite picture which was taken at lunchtime at a photo booth by the students. Next, we had the chance to conduct interviews between each other for our articles. I found it peculiarly impressive what the British girl, Éava had to say about Brexit. She explained it to me how she learned the news in 2016 and what were her and her surrounding’s initial thoughts about it. She also mentioned the possible difficulties she and many other people will have to face since she lives in Northern Ireland in a town close to the Irish border. It was instructive to hear from the nationalist’s and the unionist’s distinct views of the Brexit. For a couple of minutes, we also had the opportunity to visit a few work-groups before their performance at the hemicycle.

At four o’clock in the afternoon the plenary session has started. The complete session was interpreted by professional interpreters in three different languages much like the one in the morning. First the group’s chairman introduced the topics then the spokesperson gave us a report on their ideas how to solve these various problems. Anybody could ask questions regarding the subject and form their concern about the choices made. At the end of each debate the chamber could vote through the voting system to accept or deny the report or to dwell.

The finals of the Eurogame were held between 4 groups and the chamber could also participate by voting. To close the event students from each county processed with their flags while the European anthem was played. It was an exceptionally touching moment as we could feel the convergence of the member states and the magnitude of this integration.

I feel very lucky that I was able to take part in this great convention which has provided me with unforgettable experiences and memories. I am grateful for the opportunity and happy that I could meet all these kind, smart students and could make international friends. I do hope our class had a great time and could feel the significance of this event as I believe we were all left with new observations, thoughts and maybe future plans in the perspective of our university studies or specializations.

After our eventful day at the European Parliament we discovered the city of Strasbourg and went sightseeing in Colmar. Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to France on Sunday when we started our long travel back home to Hungary.

To sum up, I would like to finish my report on this unforgettable adventure by saying thanks to the organisers of this event, the interpreters, all the young MEPs and journalists for the cooperation, kindness and everybody who made our experience at the Parliament so memorable. Special thanks to our form teacher, who planned our whole weekend and our English teacher who helped us with the language struggles. Last but not least I would like to emphasize the work of the group of students from my class who took the time to participate in the online round of Euroscola and made it possible for everyone to make such great memories. I am very proud of us!
